285 delegates expected for 11th Philosophy Days PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 16 January 2012 09:55

The Sacred Heart Seminary community will host 285 delegates composed of 32 priest formators and 253 seminarians from the different Diocesan seminaries in Negros and Panay Islands on January 18-20, 2012.

This annual gathering which is randomly hosted by one of the eight participating Diocesan seminaries has proven its worth since it began at Roxas City, Capiz in 2001.

Among the various activities lined up in this 3-day event, the most important is the plenary session on Philosophy and Philosophical issues that directly touch the formative lives of our future clergy.

This year's theme, “Christian Philosophy and Seminary Formation”, is focused on re-evaluating the adequacy of Christian Philosophy on seminary formation vis-à-vis the relativistic, materialistic and anti-metaphysical paradigm of the post-modern era.

Archdiocesan and diocesan seminaries that have signified their participation are St. John Marie Vianney Seminary (San Carlos), Little Way Seminary (Kabankalan), St. Joseph Seminary (Dumaguete);

St. Vincent Seminary (Jaro), Santa Maria Mater et Regina Seminary (Capiz), Sto. Niño Seminary (Aklan) and St. Peter Seminary (Antique).

To provide more formative opportunities, the delegates and the Sacred Heart seminarians will be accommodated through host families.

The seminary fathers, led by Very Rev. Fr. Jesmar V. Manato, SHS Rector, together with the core group of seminarians and parents, have coordinated with selected parishes and chaplaincies for the hosting of the delegates.

The host families are from the parishes/chaplaincies of Our Lady of Holy Rosary (Eroreco), Holy Family (City Heights), Our Lady of Peace & Good Voyage (Airport), St. Therese (Cameroli), Our Lady of Fatima (Sta. Ana), Immaculate Conception (Bakyas), Sto. Niño (Helvetia), Our Lady of Miraculous Medal (Homesite), Immaculate Conception (Villamonte), Triumph of the Holy Cross (Camingawan) and San Isidro Labrador (Tangub).

The event will commence with a caravan along the major thoroughfares and landmarks of Bacolod City and an opening mass at the Sacred Heart Shrine which will be presided by Bishop Vicente M. Navarra.

The philosophical symposium is scheduled in the morning of the second day followed by sports activities in the afternoon and solidarity night in the evening.

The event is set to culminate with the delegates taking part in the celebration of the Feast Day of San Sebastian at the San Sebastian Cathedral for the 9:00 AM Mass, followed by a Fellowship Lunch.* (Sem. Giovani G. Garde)

Year-ender report: The crusade for a culture of life PDF Print E-mail

MANILA, Dec. 31, 2011–The crusade for a culture of life is an advocacy of truth, and based on the goings-on in 2011 alone, the pro-life advocacy has covered a lot of ground and, inadvertently, saw much success in promoting the truth.

Though reproductive health (RH) legislation in the Philippines is not new — being proposed, discussed, rejected and resurrected for decades now — 2012 saw significant developments in its promotion as well as in its opposition. The year ended with the RH bill reaching the period of interpellation in both chambers of Congress, heated debates in progress when legislative sessions went on adjournment on the final month of the year. Mass actions such as rallies and prayer vigils to express opposition to the bill happened not just in the country’s capital, but in many other cities in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Civil society seemed to wake up to the folly of the legislative measure and wanted to be heard loud and clear.

A Christmas Message PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 24 December 2011 07:37

A blessed Christmas to one and all!

Christmas is a time when we celebrate the infinite love of God when He shared His own Son with us.

Christmas, the, is an invitation from the loving Father in heaven that like Him we are and what we can do to show our joy and the peace in us by inspiring people to believe, to hope and to trust in God and in themselves.

Sinful, weak and poor human beings that we are, yet if we offer ourselves, in the hands of God, we can become icons of a God who is already to forgive and to accept people without any condition or mental reservation.

Yes, we can become icons of God who is all just, loving, sharing and serving.

May the Infant Jesus with Mary and Joseph bless you, your family and your Basic Ecclesial Community.

With my prayer and pastoral blessing.

MOST REV. VICENTE M. NAVARRA, D.D

Bishop of Bacolod
